June Spiers FRAS

Born in Sydney, June Spiers studied Italian and Fine Arts at Melbourne University.  She has extended her professional painting skills through her participation in a mentorship program at the National Art School with notable artists Suzanne Archer, Elisabeth Cummings, David Fairbairn and Aida Tomescu.

June is inspired by the private environment of her home and the public spaces from her travels around the world.  Her travels have provided her with an extensive bank of memories from which to draw creative inspiration.

"I respond to these memories and observations by starting with blocks of colour and working shapes into the canvas through layers of impasto.  As the paintings are impressions, I like to leave the interpretation of the work open to the viewer."

June is a Fellow of the Royal Art Society, a member of Willoughby Workshop and has won numerous prizes including the North Sydney Art Prize and the Joy Ewart Art Prize at Willoughby Workshop.  She has held five solo exhibitions as well as being a finalist in four Northern Suburbs Municipal art prizes.  June's paintings are in the collections of Mosman Art Gallery and North Sydney Council.
