Richard Rosebery

Richard is an emerging artist. After a 35-year career in tourism and hospitality Richard decided to reignite his boyhood passion for art, studying at the National Art School Sydney and completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2015. Since then, he has staged three successful solo exhibitions showcasing his passion for Australian bush and wilderness environments both in painting and drawing.

Richard seeks to capture poetic Nature, aiming to encapsulate a sense of place through his memory of the felt emotions of being there and his resultant unconscious intuitions. A passion for detail is inherent in much of Richard’s work, where the whole is made up of so many wonderful parts. His lyricism of line and often saturated colour are intended to accentuate the weirdness and beauty of the surrounding environs.

Richard paints and draws on canvas, board or paper using any combination of oils and acrylic paint, pastels, inks and charcoals. His en plein-air sketches and digital images inform his studio-based work. Richard’s work is planned from the outset however with enough room to evolve form and colour.
