Born in Sydney in 1944, I was educated in The Rocks area where I grew to appreciate the significance of the inner city buildings ,the streetscape and harbour. I became interested in the local architecture and the ever changing scene on the harbour and wharves. These images are often expressed in my artwork.
I commenced employment in commercial art then later began a period with the Commonwealth Government Authority and its successors which were responsible for the control of stevedoring operations within the shipping industry. In this role I visited many ports and in 20 years of service I gained experience that led me to illustrate the various ways of life that have since disappeared from the Australian waterfront.
I have painted exclusively in watercolour for some forty years and I truly believe that it is the most beautiful expression of all mediums. Its difficulty is always challenging and sometimes frustrating but the rewards are worth the experience.
Besides my valued membership of the Australian Watercolour Institute, I am also a Fellow of the Royal Art Society of New South Wales, a Founding Member and a Fellow of the Australian Society of Marine Artists and a Professional Member of the International Society of Marine Artists.
I have won numerous awards over many years including the Royal Canberra Art Award, the Bright Watercolour Art Award, and many others but I have never lost the enthusiasm and appeal that this beautiful expression of art offers to an artist.
