Erika works in oils directly from life. She often uses limited colour palettes and applies the paint with brushes and knives. Her current body of work employs predominantly the still life genre to explore colour relationships and storytelling. She continuously includes live portrait and figure drawing in her practice.
Erika studied under American artist, Shirley Aley Cambell. She has many influences but is most excited by the Russian Social Realist painters who, despite extreme repression, found innovative and expressive ways to circumvent politically guided themes.
Erika holds a Master of Arts in Art Education from Case Western Reserve University and The Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland Ohio (USA). She received the Eva L. Pancoast Memorial Fellowship (USA) for further studies, which she undertook in Prague (Czech Republic). Currently Erika lives and works in Sydney and conducts private individual and small group classes.
